In this project we are going to merge the The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Study with the CAFEIN platform to build a novel AI-based tool deployed via a federated learning platform to predict the risk of a women developing breast cancer. The EPIC dataset is one of the largest cohort studies in the world, with more than 520,000 participants recruited from 10 Western European countries. It is an extensive study about lifestyle, nutrition, environmental factors, and the incidence of cancer. Incorporating the use of machine learning models with the EPIC dataset to predict the disease will help in the clinical care optimization, then doctors and patients can collaboratively find the best strategies to minimize the risks, such as the prevention protocols, determining which exams to perform, and therapy evaluation.
